This Privacy Policy explains how WaypointGuru ("WaypointGuru", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you use waypoint.guru and related services.

This policy is intended to help us meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), while also reflecting common privacy practices for customers in other jurisdictions.
1. Scope
This policy applies to personal information we collect through:
- the WaypointGuru website and apps
- account registration and account management
- route planning, storage and sharing features
- subscription purchase, billing and support
- diagnostics, analytics and security processes
- communications with us
In this policy, personal information means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use WaypointGuru, we may collect the following categories of information:
Account and profile information
- name
- email address
- account identifiers
- account preferences, including language and product settings
Route and content data
- routes, folders, waypoints, route names and related route-planning content
- imported and exported GPX-related data
- account state needed to restore drafts, preferences, or recent activity
Subscription and billing information
- subscription plan, billing cycle and subscription status
- billing country or billing address information where required for payment or tax processing
- limited payment-related details supplied by our payment provider
We do not store full payment card numbers ourselves. Payments are processed by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's privacy policy.
Support and communications
- information you provide when contacting us
- feedback, survey responses, bug reports and support requests
Technical, usage and device information
- IP address
- browser and device information
- operating system and referring pages
- service interaction information, such as feature usage and product events
- local identifiers used to support diagnostics, preferences or product state
Diagnostics and error information
We collect diagnostic and error information to help operate, secure and improve WaypointGuru. As described in our help content, some diagnostics are always collected for service reliability, while additional diagnostics and usage analytics may depend on your preferences.
3. How we collect information
We collect personal information:
- directly from you, such as when you register, subscribe, create routes, upload GPX files, contact us or update your account
- automatically when you use WaypointGuru, including through cookies, local storage, server logs and similar technologies
- from service providers that help us operate the service, such as payment providers and infrastructure providers
- in limited cases from third parties where you ask us to interact with them or where the law allows it
4. Why we use personal information
We may use personal information to:
- provide, operate, maintain and improve WaypointGuru
- authenticate users and secure accounts
- store and sync routes, folders and related content
- process subscriptions, billing and refunds
- provide customer support and respond to enquiries
- investigate incidents, enforce our terms, and prevent fraud, abuse or misuse
- understand product usage and improve features, reliability and performance
- comply with legal, regulatory, tax and accounting obligations
- communicate with you about service changes, billing matters, security issues and support matters
Where applicable under local law, we process personal information because it is necessary to provide the service you request, to comply with legal obligations, to pursue our legitimate interests in operating and improving WaypointGuru, or because you have given consent.
5. Cookies, local storage and similar technologies
WaypointGuru uses cookies, local storage and similar technologies for purposes such as:
- sign-in and session management
- saving preferences and application state
- restoring drafts or recent route activity
- security and abuse prevention
- diagnostics, analytics and product improvement
You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. If you disable cookies or similar storage features, some parts of WaypointGuru may not work properly.
6. Disclosure of personal information
We may disclose personal information to:
- payment providers, including Stripe
- hosting, cloud, storage, delivery and infrastructure providers
- analytics, diagnostics, security and support providers
- professional advisers, insurers and auditors
- regulators, law enforcement bodies, courts or government agencies where required or authorised by law
- a purchaser or successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructure or sale of assets
We do not sell personal information in exchange for money.
7. Overseas disclosure and international transfers
WaypointGuru serves customers globally and some of our service providers operate internationally. Personal information may therefore be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where our service providers or their sub-processors operate.
Where required, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information in a manner consistent with applicable privacy requirements.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to provide the service, maintain business records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and comply with legal obligations.
In general:
- account and route data are kept while your account remains active
- when a subscription is cancelled, the account may remain available at the applicable non-paid plan level unless the account is deleted
- when you request account deletion, we currently apply a 30-day recovery period before permanent deletion
- billing, tax and transaction records may be retained for longer where required by law or good record-keeping practice
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to help protect personal information against misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Access, correction and your choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to legal and operational limitations.
You can also:
- update some account information directly in the service
- cancel a paid subscription through account settings
- request account deletion
- change certain diagnostics or analytics preferences in settings

11. Complaints
If you have a privacy complaint, please contact us first at contact@waypoint.guru so we can investigate and try to resolve it.
If you are in Australia and you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
If you are in another jurisdiction, you may also have the right to complain to your local privacy regulator.
12. Third-party services and links
WaypointGuru may integrate with or link to third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one. We encourage you to review those policies where relevant.
13. Children
WaypointGuru is not directed at young children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us improperly, please contact us.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may also provide notice through the service or by other appropriate means.
